On February 21, 2024, our founder Astrid Kramer will be talking about SGE, Google’s new AI-powered search interface, in the co-working space “The Pool” in Marbella.

What is SGE?

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) represents a significant evolution in search technology, integrating generative AI to enhance the search experience. Here’s a summary of what SGE offers based on the latest information:

1. Generative AI Integration: SGE uses generative AI to provide AI-powered overviews that compile the most relevant and helpful information for your search queries. This approach aims to serve a wider range of information needs and showcase more links and diverse sources on the results page, fostering new opportunities for content discovery.

2. Global Expansion and Language Support: As of November 2023, Google has expanded the SGE to over 120 new countries and territories, adding support for four new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian. This expansion makes SGE accessible to a broader global audience, allowing users to experience generative AI in search with their preferred language.

3. Enhanced Interactivity: SGE introduces upgrades to make the search experience more interactive, including easier follow-ups and AI-powered translation help. For example, it allows users to ask follow-up questions directly from the search results page, making the process of seeking information or digging deeper into a topic more natural and seamless.

4. Access Through Search Labs: To try SGE, users can access it through Search Labs on the Google app (Android and iOS) and Chrome desktop. Search Labs serves as a platform for testing early-stage experiments in search, providing a channel for users to engage with the latest innovations from Google.

SGE represents Google’s ambition to redefine the search experience by leveraging the capabilities of generative AI. By providing AI-powered overviews, supporting multiple languages, and making search more interactive, Google aims to help users find information more efficiently and gain new insights from their searches.
